Eriquez, 64, served as the mayor of Danbury from 1989-2001. A judge dismissed the charge that stemmed from a domestic incident in May 2016. He faced charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with an emergency call. The charges were dismissed because he completed a family violence education program.
Eriquez is the current chairman of the Danbury Democratic Town Committee. He stepped away from the role shortly after the arrest, and some in the party have even called for Eriquez to step aside.
The former mayor has also had previous brushes with the law. He was involved in an automobile accident in 2003 in Danbury on White Street, and in 2008 he crashed into a telephone pole on East Pembroke Road, according to a story in The News-Times. The story said in both instances, police smelled alcohol, but no arrests were made. In last year's incident, the newspaper story said, police were called to Eriquez's home around 4 a.m. The incident report said Eriquez had come home drunk, and he and his wife argued over money.
